The South Fork of the Snake River offers some of the best dry fly-fishing in the world.

Season:
Fishing is year round; SFL open May-Oct
Species: Cutthroat, Rainbow & Brown Trout
Ideal for: All Anglers

The South Fork Lodge sits on the bank of the South Fork of The Snake River, one of the premier tailwater fisheries in the United States. Our guest rooms are steps away from the river, giving you a head start on other anglers. One of the river’s most storied access points is 200 feet from where you will meet your guide in the morning. While other anglers are driving an hour plus to reach the same stretch of water, you’ll be fishing the river’s most productive spots.

All guides at The South Fork Lodge are accomplished fly fishermen/women, excellent instructors and experienced boat captains who work hard to make your experience productive and FUN!

The South Fork of the Snake, where the Lodge was built offers approximately 65 miles of fishable water. From the Palisades Reservoir to the confluence with Henry’s Fork, the South Fork is immense, with incredible fishing opportunities at every mile. The “Upper” South Fork starts at Palisades Dam and ends at the Conant Valley boat access. This section encompasses approximately 15 river miles and is the most accessible. From the Irwin access point, the river opens up as it meanders through Swan Valley. The side channels and shallow riffles offer excellent wading opportunities and some of the best dry fly fishing on the river. Lower down, the “Canyon” is the section of the South Fork beginning at the Conant Valley boat access down to the Byington boat access. The float from Conant to Cottonwood is about 15 miles, so once you’re in the canyon, you’re in for the day. The South Fork Lodge is also able to offer guests use of their private access about 12 miles down from the Conant boat ramp. Private ramp access ensures your day in the canyon is tranquil and unrushed, allowing you to take in some of East Idaho’s most dramatic country. Below Byington, the nature of the river once again changes and flows through a cottonwood forest. This stretch covers approximately 25 miles. We also own and operate an overnight campsite, that can be reserved in advance.
